I cannot wait for strawberry season. We never pass up the chance to get homemade strawberry shortcake with vanilla ice cream at our favorite car-hop drive-in in Northern Michigan. Can you guess which one I’m talking about? Hint: it’s not to be missed on your way to Mackinac Island.
It’s a short window of time that this delicious treat is available – they only use locally grown strawberries, no compromising. Unfortunately it’s still a couple weeks away, so for this recipe I simply used organic strawberries from my local super-market. This fruity drink was still refreshing and delicious. I plan to make lots more slushies throughout the summer using different fruits and essential oil combos. Let me know if you find an especially good combo. Slushies … a great way to use nature’s bounty of local fruits and keep our bodies happy!

- 2 C fresh strawberries, hulled & quartered
- 1 C ice
- 1/4 C sparkling water, unflavored or fruit flavored
- 1 T honey
- 1 drop Young Living peppermint EO
- 1 drop Young Living lime EO
Blend all ingredients in a blender powerful enough to crush ice. Want to kick it up a notch? Add 1 to 1 1/2 oz of vodka, rum, or tequila. Feel free to sub the strawberries with your favorite fruit. Same with the oils, just make sure they are Young Living oils that are labeled as dietary supplements.
Benefits of concentrated Peppermint and Lime essential oils are numerous. Do your research to decide if using essential oils is right for you. Hope you enjoy trying lots of different fruit slushies this summer!
